Tom McEachin is a retired professor of English at Laredo College on the Texas/Mexico border. I was born in Saginaw, Michigan. Fun fact: Country and Western singer Lefty Frizzell had a hit song in the 1950s titled "Saginaw, Michigan." Another fun fact: Simon and Garfunkle mentioned Saginaw in their song "America."
I worked as an editor for newspapers in Idaho, Indiana and Utah. I also spent more than a decade as a sports writer covering the Utah Jazz and the NBA. I was named Utah Sports Writer of the Year in 1995.
Some of my favorite authors include Flannery O'Connor, Malcolm Gladwell, Kent Haruf, Tobias Wolff, Brady Udall, Ron Carlson, Raymond Carver, Alice Munro, George Saunders, and Theodore Drieser, to name just a few.
